Many files come to us as composite files, meaning
they are a vector based program (Illustrator) containing placed bitmap images. Files from
vector-based programs such as Adobe Illustrator need not be built at full
size. When working with large format images it is often more convenient to
build your document at intermediate sizes such as 50%, or even 25%.
Very small dots are hard to print. As a result, gradients tend to have hard edges if built from 0%-100% tints. To avoid this, build any gradients with 2% to 98% endpoints at an absolute maximum.
If your files include placed images, the image
files must accompany the parent file.
In a Bitmap (pixel)-based image such as Adobe Photoshop files, insufficient
resolution (ppi) is the most common cause of delays. Follow these recommendations
for image resolution to avoid delays in processing your artwork.
- Layout file built at 100% 75 ppi
- Layout file built at 50% 150 ppi
- Layout file built at 25% 300 ppi
